So often, people are looking for the quick fix or the magic bullet for feeling better. I’m sharing my top tips to help you be a healthy, productive human. And I hate to say it — they’re not exactly groundbreaking. But they are EFFECTIVE. If you’re looking for more energy and productivity in your day, this is where you should start. You will absolutely notice a difference.
#1 Accountability
Accountability is key. Find someone — a partner, coach, mentor, or friend — to keep you honest and call you out when you haven’t stuck to your commitments. Share with them your goals and check in often. I have a coach or mentor in different areas of my life: health, business, life, etc. Having someone in your corner can help immensely.
#2 Hydration
For water, start with half your weight in ounces every day. Limit your dehydrating beverages like soda and coffee. If you’re guzzling water and still feeling blah and still thirsty, you may need some electrolytes. Instead of reaching for so-called Vitamin Water, I prefer homeopathic cell salts.
#3 Movement
We need movement! Our bodies aren’t meant to be in a sedentary state. We need to open the pathways and move out the junk. Start with 15 minutes a day. Do something you enjoy and feels good in your body.
Get outside and go for a walk. The fresh air will also help you clear your head and give you a fresh burst of energy. Even in the winter, get some boots with good traction, or buy some traction cleats you put on the bottom of your sneakers. Our family loves a good hike in the woods by our house — and even though they may drag their feet getting out the door, they are always in a better mood when we get home.
Another thing I love is my rebounder. It hardly feels like exercise and I can do it while watching a show or hanging out with my kids or even muted on a conference call.
#4 Real Food
Fuel your body with whole, natural foods. It’s hard to be on top of your game when you’re filling your fuel tank with poor quality food. Whether you’re trying to perform in sports, in your career, or any other part of your life, you absolutely will feel a difference when you feed your body the nutrient-dense food it needs and wants. #5 Sleep
If we aren’t getting the sleep we need, we just can’t heal. Period. Sleep deprivation and insomina are torture. It’s impossible to function optimally without sleep. Set yourself up with a routine, just like you do with your kids. Get to bed and get up at the same time every day. Turn off the screens for up to two hours prior to bed. Eliminate caffeine earlier in the day. Get more healthy sleep tips.
#6 Morning Focus Time
Yoga, meditation, prayer, workout, journaling, food prep, getting a jump on work, a passion project — whatever helps you fill your cup first and feel prepared to take on the day. Make space for you first thing in the morning, ideally while the house is still quiet. If you can’t peel yourself out of bed, work on #5 first. Then start to implement #6. I promise, this one is worth it. I am a much happier mama, wife, and business leader when I get to work on me first.
#7 Training Your Brain
We use BrainTap at home and in our office. A session on this device is like an 8-hour sleep for your brain.
The BrainTap gives you a way to tune out by tuning in, to get away from it all while resting the brain. When we repeatedly see stress coming up in our Nutrition Response Testing sessions, we turn to BrainTap to support moving that state of flight/flight into a more calm and focused one.
- Book an appointment to try BrainTap at MHB.
- Get a 15-day free trial of the BrainTap content (via an app on your phone).
- Purchase your own BrainTap headset.
