Every night at our house we pack four lunches to prep for the next school and work day.
One for a 6 year old, one for a 10 year old, one for a 37 year old and one for a 40 year old.
And for the most part, the lunches all look the same.
Dad’s may have more spice than everyone else’s, or more meat, or an extra corner of dark chocolate, but they all contain the same foods.
When we think of packing lunch for our partners, husbands and fathers, we don’t think of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches ( however, that’s a hit for the daddy-o under our roof). What comes to mind when I think of my husband and what he might want for lunch is a steak. The man would eat a steak any time of the day, AND, it’s important to get variety into his diet due to said steak craving.
Next time you’re at a dead end when packing a lunch for the man in your life, consider these 3 easy, nutritious and tasty options:
3 Gluten Free Lunches for the Man in Your Life
Taco Salad
In small containers send chopped lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, taco meat, salsa/sour cream and include a bag of organic corn tortilla chips. If you are grain free, eliminate the chips and chopped lettuce and wrap the taco meat and other ingredients into butter lettuce leaves and enjoy!
Chili Bowl
I have yet to meet a man who says no to chili. Whether vegetarian or otherwise, chili gets eaten by men whether it’s 40 below zero or 80 degrees and sunny!
Some like this with a cheese stick or with shredded cheese, avocado, sour cream or tortilla chips and some will eat it plain.
The Simple Sammy
I don’t know about you, but my husband loves a good sandwich, and frankly, every man loves a little TLC that comes from the kitchen. Keep his favorite fixings on hand and this is an easy and fast go to.
Start with his favorite bread (or your favorite for him, ahem, he doesn’t get Wonder Bread).
Condiments. Old school grass fed butter works for some and some like mayo. I even know men who don’t mind hummus on their bread for sandwiches. Take it one step further and use their favorite mustard or horse radish sauce, bacon (yes, you can use bacon as a condiment here) or blue cheese salad dressing.
Meat. Must have meat. Whether it’s roast beef, turkey, ham, salami or a mix of all mentioned meats, pile it on.
Everything else: banana peppers, jalapeños, green peppers, sliced pickles, radishes, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, more meat, habanero cheese, sprouts, avocado, spinach, bacon, or fried egg.
Now that you’ve got some easy and great lunch ideas, we want to know your man’s favorite sandwich fixings!
