I’m the oldest of four kids, and if I remember anything about our childhood, it’s the (what seemed like) weekly visits to our pediatrician. It’s a wonder my mom kept down a job with all those field trips to the waiting room.
We got to know our pediatrician so well I actually shadowed her for my 8th grade Career Day. In my moms shoulder padded blouse, skirt and high heels, no less.
Ear infections were big in our house as was strep. If only my mom had a tool like my At-Home Health Care Manual during those days, maybe we would have been able to handle some of those things at home. Be sure to download a free copy.
Head to the Chiropractor
When I first began my career in the holistic health field more than 20 years ago, one of the first things I noticed was the success parents see when utilizing chiropractic care for their children, especially in the world of ear infections. Check out this case study from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.
I was sold on chiropractic as a teenager so it only made sense to put my children under the care of pediatric chiropractors from in-utero. I had received chiropractic care prior to, during, and after my pregnancies with both, and each of our girls were adjusted within 24 and 48 hours after birth (even the most gentle of home births causes subluxation of the spine).
We have had a variety of pediatric chiropractors who have all met the needs of our family for the place in life we are in at the time … and they have all been uber effective. In fact, our three children have only taken ONE round of antibiotics between them in the last 17 years.
Here’s how an ear ache scenario typically goes for us… Annie (6 years old at the time) had a cold that was moving into its second week when she complained of ear pain one morning — highly unusual for her. We tried ear candling and Wally’s ear drops and neither helped.
I set an appointment with our chiropractor, Dr. Jeremy Faue from Experience Wellness, for that afternoon, to get her looked at. When you don’t know what to do when your child has ear pain, chiropractic is a fantastic, non-invasive and affordable (read: no surprise medical bills or prescriptions necessary).…..
He got out his otoscope (every pediatric chiropractor has one, as far as I’ve seen), took a peek in her ears, found no inflammation but that it was out of alignment a bit. With one quick adjustment, we were back in action and the ear pain was gone. The cold was gone a few days later.
Other Ear Ache Home Remedies to Try
Purchase mullein garlic oil or make your own at home. Garlic has been used as a natural remedy to fight illness for thousands of years. It is a powerful antimicrobial, antiviral, and antibacterial. Mix freshly minced garlic with warm (not hot) olive oil. Put 2 – 3 drops into affected ears with a dropper. Ask your kiddo to lay on his/her side for 10 minutes, then have a tissue handy if some oil comes back out when they stand up.
A few go-to homeopathy remedies for earaches: pulsatilla, chamomilla, and belladonna.
Look into ear candling, a service provided by some massage therapists, acupuncturists, or salons.
Apply a warm compress to the ear. We love our homemade rice socks for this.
Cellcore supplements CT Minerals or HydrOxygen can also be applied in the ears. Start with one drop. Contact us for access to these supplements.
Another recommendation I make to my Nutrition Response Testing families when they complain of ear pain would be to drop dairy and sugar consumption. If there is a virus or bacteria involved, sugar and dairy (a form of sugar) will only feed those bugs, causing them to accumulate, which only causes further pain and immune distress.
