What is Functional Medicine?

I was introduced to the possibility Functional Medicine can create for a persons health years ago while in line at an Aveda salon to purchase a hairbrush.  The clerk behind the counter, a breast cancer survivor, was sharing with the person in front of me the success she saw in using Functional Medicine alongside the traditional chemotherapy/radiation regimen suggested for her treatment.

This conversation was so rich, I bent my ear a little closer in time for her to hear that she never ever got sick from the chemo/radiation like so many people do, and she credits that to utilizing Functional Medicine.

I paid for my hairbrush, refrained from jumping across the counter to hug this woman I didn’t know (whose story she had no idea I listened to), and went home to Google search the name of the doctor she worked with and to answer my own question:  What is Functional Medicine?

What I’m excited to share with you is that there are Functional Medicine doctors all over, including right here in the Twin Cities, and Dr. Laura Sandquist of Newbridge Clinic is one of them.  I recently nabbed her for an interview, so you’ll want to scroll down to check that out.

If you could ask Dr. Laura anything about Functional Medicine, what would it be?
