Using the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) may reduce stress and tension and support your family in creating peace of mind.
During the COVID-19 months of distance learning and shelter-in-place orders, one thing I have seen in office is a much higher stress response. Not shocking considering the uncertainty and mixed messages folks are receiving.
My experience with the Emotional Freedom Technique, and working with Katie Baumtrog in particular, has given me the desire to share this work far and wide. EFT, or tapping, is a simple technique you can use anywhere. It involves naming the negative emotion, focusing on it, and gently tapping with your fingertips on 9 specific meridian points of the body. Learn more about how it works here.
In our current state, it’s important to find a way to stay grounded and calm. Tapping provides a way to see through what’s causing stress and relieve the sense of heaviness or whatever emotion one is feeling. In just minutes your emotional state can change from, say, fear and resentment, to one of ease and freedom.
If we as adults can feel such a quick shift (again, in just minutes!), we have got to share this technique with our children. Empowering our children to express and feel all the feels is one way toward building a healthy and connected relationship.
Author Louise L. Hay says, “You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds … Claim and consciously use your power.”
What strength and encouragement we can give our children (and ourselves) by reminding us that we do have the power to heal our lives and we are not helpless. We can claim this power and use it to propel our lives forward.
We had many families in this virtual tapping class and many of them expressed concerns around missing their friends, not physically being in class, and those who were homeschooled prior to COVID-19 expressed similar concerns around being separated from their social outlets.
This class was recorded to share here so please sit down with your children and take advantage of this opportunity to relax, let go, and connect.
