One of the best things my mom ever did for me was to start getting me adjusted by a chiropractor when I was twelve. Among the myriad benefits chiropractic care can create for kids, my favorite is that it gave me a strong connection to my physical body.
I can always tell when I need to be adjusted and where. What’s fun about this is our kids can now do the same. If they need to be adjusted before our next appointment in two weeks, they let me know or request I do some work on them to hold them over until we get there.
All three of my children were adjusted within their first few days of life, and each of them had vertebral subluxations or misalignment in their spines from the birth process. There were no complications in my pregnancies, labors, or deliveries and yet they were out of alignment simply from the process of rotating through the birth canal during delivery. I believe, too, where they need adjustments post-delivery is also related to position they’ve been hanging out in for days, weeks, or months in utero. Makes sense, right?
The benefits of chiropractic care for kids are numerous and include (though are not limited to):
- reduced ear infections
- improved immune function
- reduced instances of colic
- improved sleep
- reduced hyperactivity
- increased physical comfort
- decreased experiences of anxiety
- higher levels of focus and concentration
- recovery from injuries
We have had a variety of pediatric chiropractors who have all met the needs of our family for the place in life we are in at the time … and they have all been uber effective (for example, Sunny’s injury on the playground). In fact, our three children have only taken ONE round of antibiotics between them in the last 17 years. I strongly believe our consistent trips to the chiropractor for wellness care have been key in keeping their immune systems strong. When I was growing up it felt like someone (I’m the oldest of 4) was on antibiotics every single month. There was always a bottle of amoxycillin in the fridge.
How We Handle Health Concerns With Our Kids
Now my approach is to first do everything in my toolbox to handle our health from home. Download the At-Home Health Care Manual (it’s free) for 20+ pages of my go-to resources and remedies.
In place of pediatricians (though if you do need one locally, I recommend New Kingdom), we use Nutrition Response Testing, chiropractic, homeopathy, and an acupuncturist for our family health care team.
For us, chiropractic care has saved time and money. It has given us a solid relationship with a health care provider, and when any school form or otherwise requests the name of a health care provider, it’s our chiropractor’s name that goes on the line.
