“Thank you so much for being my doula, you were an immense help. I really couldn’t have done it without you. It was wonderful having you there, especially since the staff wasn’t. Your presence and support gave me everything to get through labor; that was a tough one. I am so overjoyed with the outcome, though!”

What you did for Abby when she had all the built up gas was an extremely huge help.

Doulas are women who support and empower other women. Having become a doula before I had children of my own, my love of bellies, birth and babies gave me desire enough to support women throughout their pregnancy and birth experience, however, it was after having children that I came to understand the true need of women.
Mothers need to be mothered. Women need to be nurtured, held, heard, encouraged, and loved for the decisions they make throughout the process of becoming a mother. They need informational, emotional and physical support. They need reminding of their strength and beauty. They need to be surrounded by women who have been there before, be it through support and knowing or through personal experience of having given birth.
Women who use doula support typically experience fewer complications, shorter labors, less postpartum depression, and less of a need to request pain medication. Clinical researches, as well as major health organizations such as The WHO, recommend doula support. Birth doulas are shown to reduce labor times and improve the overall satisfaction of the birth experience. Many insurance plans cover birth doula services or you can use your flex-benefit fund. From personal experience, women who have used doula support are less anxious about the process of birth, have a continuum of care throughout their labor time, feel a more instant bond with their babies, and feel more confident about becoming a mother.
